Chicken with oranges

The recipe is for those who like meat with fruits. It is already considered a classic to combine poultry with citrus, e.g. Duck with oranges, Lemon chicken, etc.

Chicken with oranges

  • 1 chicken (4 legs, tights and drums)
  • juice of 1 orange (~ 200 ml)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 4-5 shallots
  • 100 g olives (black, green)
  • 100 g cherry tomatoes
  • zest of 1/4 orange
  • drawn butter
  • salt, black pepper


  • 1 sprig rosemary (2in), chopped
  • 2 sprigs thyme, chopped
  • 1 tsp Spanish smoked paprika
  • 1 orange
  • zest 1/2 orange
  • salt, black peppers
  • cut the chicken into the serving pieces
  • peel off the orange rind and julienne it
  • chop or blend the orange
  • combine the chopped herbs, salt, pepper, julienned rind, paprika and rub this mixture into the chicken
  • put the chicken into a dish, add in the blended orange and mix
  • cover and leave in the fridge for 12 hours
  • take the chicken out, tap dry with the kitchen towels
  • in a pan heat 2 tbsp of the drawn butter and fry the chicken pieces until golden brown from both sides, transfer the chicken into a baking dish
  • in a pan saute the shallots for 3-4 min, add in the orange zest (1/4 of the orange)
  • pour in the orange juice, add the honey, salt, pepper, bring to the boil and reduce the heat, simmer for 1-2 min, stirring occasionally
  • pour the sauce over the chicken, add in the olives and put to the preheated to 200C oven for 30 min
  • add cherry-tomatoes and bake for 10 min
  • serve with the rice

I took orange blossom honey; the rosemary honey would also work well. You can take chicken breasts, but reduce the baking time then. You can add the segments of the orange to the dish. If you cannot get shallot, take regular onion.
